Challenge fail

Well, I really blew it on this month’s Cookbook Challenge: I didn’t even manage to make one recipe from the selected cookbook. I spent plenty of time drooling over the contents beforehand, but when it came down to where the skillet meets the stove (or whatever), I either didn’t have the skillet (or mostly any other piece of equipment I needed), or I didn’t have the motivation. Oh, and then I left town for the last week of the month.

I’ve already returned the challenger to the library. I’m not sure if, under the circumstances, this constitutes a fair trial, but it’s probably better that I have an excuse not to buy a cookbook. Excuses to buy cookbooks I have in abundance. (The latest was: this one’s not for sale in the US!)

So I don’t have any fancy new recipes to share with you. Instead, I’ll point you to some of the oldies-but-goodies I turned to instead, as being reliably delicious and possible to produce with a limited amount of kitchen equipment:

Lemon mustard chicke

Steak with blue cheese sauce, gnocchi, and greens

Pizza and Caesar salad

Crispy/chewy/cheesy/tasty pasta

These potatoes

And a promise that the next time I attempt the Challenge, it will be in a kitchen fully stocked with my own stuff!

At least you're smart enough to do this with library books. I tend to buy them and then think, "oh dear, that wasn't quite what I thought it would be..." :)

Never fear--I do that too! Testing one from the library is definitely the exception to the rule.
